For over 10 years now I have handled the design of every facility Always Equipment Inc. has had the pleasure to install "Used" & New pallet rack, conveyor, mezzanines and even shelving in.
First & foremost the one thing I have learned is it is never to early to look at potential layouts for your facility. Most companies wait until they have found their new facility signed all the paperwork and are ready to move in before the look to see how there storage system will fit in. Yes the approach works out in the end but not as well as most people hope. You really need to look at how column spacing within the facility will effect your overall layout of the storage system.
For an easy example lets take a look at a company that uses lift equipment requiring a 12' aisle. In this scenario the easiest layout is with a 40' on center column space this allows a row of rack on each side of your column with a double row down the center (4' pallet + 12' aisle + 4' pallet + 4' pallet + 12' aisle + 4' pallet = 40'). As you can see that works out perfect but what happens if you have a column spacing of 30'? as you can see with the same example above you wind up with columns in the center of your aisles this is not good wastes space and can even be a safety hazard when lift equipment is traveling down the aisle.
This is just one of many situations where it pays to look at potential layouts prior to moving on a new facility. As you can see though it can significantly lower the number of pallets stored in a facility if you do not get it right from the start.

Our First Blog - About Us
Before I tell you who Always Equipment Inc. is and what we do I want to let you know what our plans are for this blog;
What we want to do is help warehouse managers, operation managers and anyone else with an interest learn or better understand how your material handling equipment, pallet racking and all of those things within your facility can best serve you.
If you are currently running a facility, in search of a new facility or even looking to gain employment at a facility this blog will be instrumental in expanding your knowledge. With over 80 years of combined experience designing & running all types of warehouses and distribution centers we will try to convey all of this knowledge to you.
Hopefully you will get to know each of the 3 people who will be imparting their knowledge based on the topics each of us tackle and the type of knowledge each of us has.
